From the Alzheimer’s Society on Facebook:
Today, dementia charities across the country are uniting with a single, urgent message in #OneDementiaVoice.
We’re calling on the Government to give designated family & friend carers Key Worker status so they can safely visit their loved ones in care homes and provide essential support.
Family carers are a key part of the care system. They may be the only one who can brush a loved one’s teeth, help them with eating & drinking, & keep them connected to the world.
It’s not enough for them just to be able to visit (although of course this is important) – they need to be able to provide that support safely as well.
Without family carers’ work being clearly recognised and supported – and without them receiving the same provision of coronavirus testing as care home staff – we face a hidden catastrophe in our care homes.
