Warning by Derbyshire Police of scam telephone calls
Derbyshire police are warning people about a scam call from someone pretending to be a police officer who says they are investigating the unauthorised use of your bank card.
If you get a call like this don’t give out any personal information and hang up immediately. Wait five minutes and make sure you can hear a dial tone before making any other calls. Or call a friend first if you’re on a mobile, to make sure the fraudster isn’t keeping the line open.
This type of call can be linked to ‘courier fraud’, when victims are encouraged to withdraw money from their bank account or give bank cards to a courier, arranged by the ‘police officer’.
The police will never contact you asking for banking information or request that you withdraw money from an account to help an investigation.
If you, or someone you know, receives a call like this please contact the police as soon as possible.
Online – complete the contact form https://crowd.in/NFNZYD
Phone – call 101.
